Eden Medical Center’s Cancer Program Receives National Achievement Award

Eden Medical Center is one of a select group of hospitals to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. Just 106 currently accredited and newly accredited cancer programs across the United States have received this award.
This prestigious award is the result of the dedication, expertise and care of Eden physicians and staff to provide the best cancer diagnostic, treatment and educational practices that optimize outcomes for our cancer patients. This work is supported by research by the Eden Tumor Registry, which tracks the health status of our patients and allows us to review patient care protocols, analyze trends and develop optimum standards of care. Eden’s Cancer Program also includes community-wide education to promote cancer awareness, early detection and prevention.
Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) recognizes cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. The award is granted to facilities that demonstrate a commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent six areas of cancer program activity: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical management, research, community outreach, and quality improvement.
The level of compliance with the seven standards is determined during an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor. In addition, facilities must receive a compliance rating for the remaining 29 cancer program standards. The 106 programs, including Eden Medical Center, represent approximately 22 percent of programs surveyed during 2011.
